Have you ever noticed that sometimes you walk into a room and immediately feel something? Perhaps you feel calm and welcomed. Or maybe you suddenly feel unsettled, tired or overwhelmed without knowing exactly why.
We are constantly responding to the world around us not only through what we see and hear, but through our emotions, our nervous system, our relationships and our sense of connection.
This is where the beautiful practice of energy healing can offer us another way of listening. And if you practise Reiki, you already have a wonderful tool in your hands.
Reiki is your superpower. Not because it gives you extraordinary powers or makes you invincible, but because it teaches you something far more valuable, how to pause, connect, listen and return to yourself.
What Is Energy Healing?
Energy healing is a broad term used for practices that work with a person's energetic body, balance and wellbeing.
Reiki is one such practice.

In the Reiki tradition, the practitioner places their hands gently on or just above the body, allowing Reiki (universal life force energy) to flow through the practitioner. For many people, a Reiki session becomes a deeply relaxing experience a chance to slow down, quieten the mind and reconnect with themselves.
Reiki isn't about forcing an outcome or pushing energy into another person. The practitioner holds the space for this energy to flow, allowing the person to be open to receive as much as they need at that moment to come back into balance. And that may be one of its greatest lessons. We live in a world that constantly tells us to do more, achieve more, fix more and become more. But with Reiki you don't push you just allow. Each person has their own unique experience and each session they are receiving exactly what they need at that time to come back into harmony.
And when you learn the teachings and practice of Reiki for yourself, then you have this superpower that is life changing. Your superpower Isn't about being superhuman.
When we hear the word “superpower,” we might imagine something dramatic. Perhaps our real superpowers are much quieter.
The ability to remain compassionate when life is difficult. The courage to listen to our intuition. The wisdom to know when we need rest. The ability to place a hand on our heart and breathe before reacting. The willingness to sit with ourselves rather than constantly distracting ourselves. And the capacity to bring calm and presence into a stressful moment.
These are powerful things. Reiki helps us practise them and live from a place of trust not fear. It quietens the inner critic, the anger, the worry and reminds us of this magical, divine life we are living.
One of the simplest things about Reiki is also one of the most beautiful: your hands are always with you.
You don't need a special room.
You don't need candles, crystals or music.
You don't need perfect conditions.
You can place your hands gently anywhere on your body while sitting or lying down
You can rest your hands on your abdomen while taking a few slow breaths.
You can pause during a busy day, close your eyes and reconnect with yourself.
Your Reiki practice can become an anchor.
A reminder:
I am here.
I can breathe.
I can pause.
I can listen.
Reiki doesn't mean you never have difficult days. Having a Reiki practice doesn't mean you will never feel anxious, frustrated, sad or overwhelmed.
We are human. Life will still happen and we are meant to experience all things human.
There will be challenging conversations, unexpected changes, tired mornings and days when everything feels too much.
The gift of Reiki isn't necessarily that it removes every difficult experience. The gift is that it gives us a way to meet those experiences with greater awareness. It brings the light into the darkness.
Instead of immediately reacting, we can pause.
Instead of pushing everything away, we can listen.
Instead of believing every thought that enters our mind, we can create a little space around it. That space can be incredibly powerful.
A Simple “Superpower” Practice
The next time you feel overwhelmed, try this:
Place one hand over your heart and one over your abdomen.
Take three slow, comfortable breaths.
Allow your shoulders to soften.
Rather than asking, “How do I fix this?”, ask:
“What do I need right now?”
Don't rush to find the answer.
Simply listen.
Perhaps you need rest.
Perhaps you need to set a boundary.
Perhaps you need to speak honestly.
Perhaps you need a glass of water, a walk outside or a few quiet minutes.
Or perhaps you simply need to remind yourself that you don't have to solve everything at once.
Let your Reiki practice hold the space while you listen. The real magic is in the practice
Like any skill, Reiki becomes something we understand more deeply through practice.
Not through perfection. Not through trying to have a particular experience.
But through returning again and again. A few minutes of self-Reiki.
A moment of stillness.
Hands placed gently on the body.
A conscious breath.
A willingness to be present.
Over time, these small moments can change the way we relate to ourselves. And that is the real superpower.
Not becoming someone who never struggles but becoming someone who knows how to come home to themselves. How to walk this human experience with more spirit.
You already carry the gift
For the Reiki students, remember that you don't need to wait until you feel like an “expert” to benefit from your practice.
You don't need to know everything.
You don't need to have profound sensations every time.
You simply need to practise.
Trust the process.
Stay curious.
Keep learning.
And allow Reiki to become less about something you do and more about a way you live.
Your hands can become a reminder of compassion.
Your breath can become an anchor.
Your practice can become a sanctuary.
And your growing awareness can become a quiet strength that you carry into everyday life.
That is your superpower. Not controlling the world around you. But learning to meet yourself and life with greater presence, compassion and awareness.
One final Reiki reminder. The next time you place your hands upon yourself, pause for a moment and remember:
You don't have to be perfect.
You don't have to have all the answers.
You don't have to fix everything today.
And allow yourself to remember the quiet power that has been within you all along.
Reiki is your superpower not because it makes you superhuman, but because it helps you become more fully present to the human being you already are.
